The only boxershorts that get better over time.
Traditional boxershorts often develop holes quickly because they are usually made from single-twisted yarns or lower-quality fabrics that lack strength and durability - meaning the fibers wear thin and break down after repeated washing and wearing. At Son of John, we use premium two-ply yarn in a 100/2 x 100/2 poplin weave, where each thread is tightly twisted and woven twice for extra stability. This results in a finer, denser fabric that resists tearing and holds its shape longer. Over time, the tightly spun fibers gradually relax and polish with every wash, enhancing the natural softness of the cotton and giving the fabric a smoother, silkier feel. The result: boxers that don’t just last longer, but actually get better the more you wear and wash them.
Two-ply yarn
A two-ply cotton thread consists of two particularly tightly twisted cotton fibers. These high-quality threads are woven into the weft and warp (one vertical and one horizontal thread). The length of the threads makes it lighter and more silky, while the high twist and double twist of the yarns ensure additional stability. Our fabric has the quality label 100/2 x 100/2, which means a 100-count thread is sewn twice in the weft and warp. Unlike regular 115g-130g/m² varieties, our fabric is lighter at just 105g-110g/m².
Yarns are available in thicknesses from 40/2 x 40/2 to 180/2 x 180/2. We deliberately chose the 100/2 x 100/2 quality because it best meets our boxer requirements. Therefore, we also avoid half-twisted yarns, where only one weft or warp thread is twisted, and single-twisted 100% cotton fabrics.
Our choice
Yarns range in thickness from 40/2 x 40/2 to 180/2 x 180/2. For our boxers, we deliberately chose the 100/2 x 100/2 quality because it strikes the perfect balance: fine and smooth enough to feel silky against the skin, yet strong and durable enough to withstand daily wear and frequent washing. Unlike half-twisted yarns—where only one of the warp or weft threads is twisted—or single-twisted 100% cotton fabrics, our fully two-ply 100/2 x 100/2 construction ensures superior strength, resistance to holes, and a refined softness that only improves over time.
Poplin
Durable, breathable, and exceptionally versatile – that’s poplin. Traditionally used in shirting, we’ve chosen this premium fabric for our boxers because of its unique balance of strength and comfort. Its special plain weave, with a denser warp and wider weft thread, creates a smooth, lightweight fabric that feels soft on the skin, stays breathable throughout the day, and holds its shape wash after wash.
Care instructions
Our boxershorts can be washed at 40°C. Please note that the boxershorts will shrink slightly after washing. Therefore, our shirts have an extra inch in length to ensure they don't feel too small and still fit comfortably even after washes.
